SUMMARY:Kadal do Moga - Papamma Khader at Strangers House Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Strangers House Gallery \n\n\n\nArtistic Director: Sumesh Sharma \n\n\n\nCurated by: Afroz Zain Algiers \n\n\n\nPapamma Khader began making art in 2017\, following the passing of her beloved husband\, turning to art as a way to navigate her grief. Her first venture into art was through colouring books\, but recently at the age of eighty three\, she discovered the joy of watercolour. Painting with a “claw hand” that was partially paralyzed during the birth of her first child\, she unabashedly invites us into vibrant landscapes from her childhood and her soaring imagination. \n\n\n\nBorn in the hills of Bajpe as one of fifteen children\, and never having received any schooling\, she spent her life cooking\, gardening and raising five children in Baikampady\, Karnataka. Through her intuitive mark making and embodied use of unconventional colour palettes\, flows art that is playful and bursting with life – just like her. The diversity of her landscapes sparks wonder about her ability to travel far and wide\, right from her living room chair. Her titles are reminiscent of zen haikus in their crisp and humourous insight\, springing from sharp observations about routine life.

SUMMARY:Bits of Me : Collage for Self-Awareness
DESCRIPTION:Explore your current mental and emotional landscape through a collage. \nThe process of collage-making allows us to put down separate bits of thoughts\, sensations\, and feelings down within a contained space\, and then take a step back to look at our internal world with a little distance. These collages are like scenes from a play – they have characters in the form of images\, shapes\, colours\, and textures. If we listen really carefully\, they even speak! \nNo artistic experience necessary\, we will use a digital tool with which you can simply drag and drop your art into existence! If you would like to make a physical collage\, that is more than welcome! Do bring materials you may need like scissors\, glue\, colours\, pens\, magazines\, etc. \nThis is an online event with limited seats. \nSend me an email at info@afrozalgiers.com or use the contact form to register.

SUMMARY:Excavations Through Kathak: A Poetic Exploration of Movement
DESCRIPTION:Excavations through Kathak are two unique explorations that push the boundaries of Kathak using tools from dance movement therapy and embodied poetics. Since beej garage is a space to explore process\, this offering will be followed by an interactive discussion with the artistes and a workshop. \n*TENTACLES OF DESIRE* \nCreated by Afroz Algiers \nAn intimate dive into Kathak riyaaz as a self-reflective practice—which reveals the dancer’s inner world of thoughts\, feelings\, sensations\, memories\, and desires. \nThrough dance\, image\, and poetry\, this project invites us to feel the tension of control and surrender\, pain and pleasure\, self and the Universal. \n*AISHWARYAM* \nConceptualized and Created by Chandana Raizada \nI started learning Kathak at 28\, in 2015. I was drawn irresistibly to the form. I didn’t know why at that time\, but it soon started to make sense. \nIn this project I attempt to capture the profound impact that Kathak has had on me. My journey\, as much as it is personal is also universal. I share my emotions and discoveries in this piece\, which I have strung together using the sounds of pakahwaj\, flute\, ghungroos and the spoken word. Movements are devised from Kathak and theatre.
